Our prosperity is how we choose to define it and how we choose to go after it. Most people would probably agree that we would all like to feel more prosperous with success, good fortune, advancement, and growth, at least at some point in our life. Then why not wish it for everyone?
Spock, a character from the early TV series “Star Trek” was known for the saying, “Live Long and Prosper”. Spock’s character was calm, non-emotional and logical. In fact, Spock claimed emotions and other human characteristics were often highly illogical and made no sense at all. So to wish everyone well would be a highly logical and practical thing to do, and not to do so would be highly illogical and only detrimental to ourselves.
His approach could be supported by the universal principle or law of cause and effect. This principle suggests that what you put out will have a direct effect on what you receive or comes back to you. In other words, we reap what we sow. You could say that prosperity in life is created by our own actions or lack thereof.
It has been said that we are constantly sending and receiving signals or vibrations, either consciously or unconsciously, through our thoughts, words, and actions – like a broadcasting system radiating throughout the universe. Or as put by one of the ancients, “Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.” If you treat people the way that you want to be treated, you are more likely to be treated better by others. If you don’t want to feel unappreciated, learn to appreciate others. If you want a friend, be a friend. As Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Can you recall how good it felt to help someone over a hump or when you put a smile on someone’s face with a kind word or gesture? You might say we can’t give someone $10.00 if we only have $5.00. However, when we do give, it is because we are feeling prosperous and generous. If we love, it is because we feel loved. We feel affluent and automatically want to share that feeling of prosperity. It is that good, kind, loving, sharing energy or true feelings that rise to the surface. We all have this energy within us, even if we may have forgotten about it. In fact, it is only our thoughts, emotions and a self-made identity that divide and keep us apart.
So fill your cup, do the things that you bring you joy, excitement or laughter, and you will automatically gladly share that good with others. Life will become richer and more prosperous as that positive energy radiates out and comes back to you. So live the spirit of “Live Long and Prosper” in all your endeavours!
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
